BOISE -- A Caldwell man suspected of shooting at two Canyon County sheriff's deputies before turning the gun on himself has pleaded guilty to two federal gun charges.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 27-year-old Kyle Batt pleaded guilty Friday to unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Sentencing is set for Aug. 13.

Prosecutors say Batt was convicted of a felony drug charges in 2004 and is not permitted to own a gun.

Batt is suspected of wounding two deputies who were trying to arrest him on aggravated assault charges on Oct. 23. Batt reportedly shot himself in the face when he was confronted by a SWAT team.
