KAMIAH, Idaho -- A private bulldozer operator working on the Pardee Fire in northern Idaho died of a heart attack Monday.

Officials with the Idaho Department of Lands report that Dennis Long of Clarkston died from an apparent heart attack or other natural causes.

Clarkston, who is a private contractor in his 50s, was using the machine to put in a fire line, according to reports.

The IDL says a dozer boss perform CPR on Long, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Pardee Fire started around 7 a.m. Monday, July 8. Officials say it was caused by lightning. The flames are burning on the east side of the Clearwater River between Greer and Kamiah.

Fire crews have worked overnight to contain about 40 percent of the fire, according to the IDL.
