House Speaker Bruce Newcomb announces retirement
BOISE – House Speaker Bruce Newcomb announced today this legislative session will be his last in the Idaho Legislature. Idaho Legislature House Speaker Bruce Newcomb. Newcomb has been in the Idaho House of Representatives for two decades, while serving the last eight years as House speaker. That's the longest tenure of any speaker in Idaho history. "I had a hard act to follow in Mike Simpson and Tom Boyd, but I did my best," said NewComb. "I'm proud of the people I served with, the trust we developed and the work we did. I'm grateful for all the help, support and constructive criticism I've received over the years, from here in the Legislature and most of all from the good folks back home who put their trust in me to represent them. Thank you." The Burley Republican is celebrating his 66th birthday today. Newcomb did not discuss plans for life after the Legislature, other than to say he will be back at work on his Burley cattle ranch. He is married to married to Celia Gould, a former state representative from Buhl. They have five grown children and seven grandchildren. More Top News |
