Coeur d'Alene schools brace for budget cuts
02:09 PM MST on Thursday, January 8, 2009
COEUR D'ALENE -- Coeur d'Alene School District Superintendent Hazel Bauman is warning employees that plans to slash more than $5 million from the budget will affect everything.
Bauman sent an e-mail to workers this week, saying the district can't keep the budget balanced without impacting jobs and programs.
The district has nearly 1,100 workers, making it one of the largest employers in the region.
The local budget reductions are being made in anticipation of a possible 5 to 6 percent cut next year in the state's public schools budget.
District trustees will hear the district's list of potential budget cuts Monday at a special board meeting.
