BOISE -- The Idaho Statehouse was a sea of red today for the start of Red Ribbon Week.

This annual event in Boise encourages youth to be drug free.

Our Scott Evans, Larry Gebert and even the Channel 7 hot air balloon were at the celebration this afternoon.

The theme of Red Ribbon Week for 2012 is "The Best Me Is Drug Free."

For the nearly 1,000 students in attendance it's never to soon to talk about being drug free.

"The sooner they start the better," said Boise Police Sgt. Danielle Young. "They are at home with older siblings that might be using, or parents that might be using, or family members that might expose them. So the sooner the better."

The Summerwind Skippers and BSU cheerleaders were among those who performed today.
