BOISE, Idaho -- Isolated thunderstorms, high winds, and reports of lightning strikes are creating a hassle for many throughout southwest Idaho Tuesday.
The line of storms began moving through the Treasure Valley late Monday night, followed by wind speeds of up to 35 m.p.h. late Tuesday morning.
A flash-flood watch was issued on Tuesday for areas scarred by forest fires in parts of Boise, Elmore, and Valley counties until 1:15 p.m.
The watch is particulary concerning for those traveling in Valley County on Hwy. 55 near the Banks-Lowman-Smith's Ferry area where mud slides and rock falls are a danger. Officials say mud and rock slides can happen hours after a heavy rain.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Boise, Elmore, Gooding, and Twin Falls counties at 11:30 a.m. The warning included storm winds capable of blowing over 60 m.p.h.
Tuesday's rain showers and high winds are also expected to cause periodic power outages throughout the Treasure Valley.
Idaho Power media representatives say repair crews are stretched thin due to widespread power outages reported Tuesday.
They plan to restore power as soon as possible, but say no estimated times of power restoration are available.
