04:23 PM MST on Friday, December 26, 2008
SALEM, Ore. -- A runaway girl has been charged with multiple crimes after police say she robbed a man at gunpoint and carjacked his hummer after he offered her a ride on a rainy Christmas afternoon.
Salem police say the girl pulled the gun, held it to the man's head and demanded money after the 21-year-old man helped her get out of the rain. He spotted her walking on Lancaster Dr SE and offered to give her a ride, then drove her to an apartment complex at Hyacinth Ave NE and Portland Rd NE.
The driver managed to escape and she fled in the hummer, police said. But a short time later, officer Tom Rousseau spotted the hummer, pulled the teen over, and arrested her after finding a semi-automatic pistol and the victim's wallet in her possession.
The suspect was charged with theft, robbery, kidnapping, unlawful use of a gun, unauthorized use of a vehicle and giving false information to a police officer.
