12:28 PM MDT on Tuesday, April 1, 2008
An 11-year-old boy playing with his father’s gun shot himself at his home in Centralia, Wash. and later, died, according to police.
“Both [boys] were eating dinner in separate rooms of the house when the 15-year old heard a gunshot from the room his brother was in. The 15-year old told detectives that when he heard the shot he went into the room where he found his brother with a gunshot wound. He said his brother told him he had accidentally shot himself,” explained Sgt. Stacy Brown with the Centralia Police Department.
The 15-year old called his father on his cell phone who then called 9-1-1 for help. An ambulance arrived soon after and rushed the victim to a local hospital but the boy could not be saved.
Police said the gun used in the incident belonged to the boys’ father.
Names will not be released, due to the age of the boys and police said the investigation continues.
“Sheriff’s detectives remained at the scene into the early morning hours investigating and processing the scene,” Brown said.
