CANNON BEACH, Ore. -- A swimmer found himself in an embarrassing and scary situation on the Oregon Coast Tuesday night.

The tide came in, leaving the unidentified 23-year-old stranded on a rock at Silver Point, just south of Cannon Beach. And to make matters especially sensitive, he had lost his swim trunks while struggling in the water.
"The man who was trapped on the rocks had swam too far and lost his suit due to rough seas. He managed to lift himself out of the water and onto the rocks," a Coast Guard PR spokesman said.
The man was airlifted off his perch, which had by this time become an island surrounded by very cold ocean water.
The Coast Guard crew said the incident brought attention to the serious risks people face if they venture out before the tides change.
The man suffered mild hypothermia, authorities said, and was treated by paramedics once the helicopter landed in Astoria.
