BEAVERTON, Ore. -- A train hit an SUV alongside Southwest Tualatin Valley Highway Friday morning, dispatchers said.
The accident happened just before 11 a.m., when the SUV was hit by a freight train between Southwest Murray Boulevard and Southwest Hocken Avenue.
The driver was reportedly on a cell phone and stopped at a train crossing with no lights or crossing gate. He apparently didn't realize the train was coming even as witnesses tried to get his attention, police said.
An ambulance took the driver to the hospital.
A Life Flight helicopter was called to the scene, but was later called off.
