NEAR COEUR D'ALENE - A semi loaded with 35,000 pounds of cheese crashed on a snowy I-90 west of 4th of July Pass in North Idaho just before noon on Sunday and delayed traffic in that area for hours.
The crash happened around 11:30 a.m when the driver lost control headed along a curve in the westbound lanes. He slammed into the jersey wall in the median, pushing some of the wall into the eastbound lanes. The semi finally flipped its trailer on the shoulder of the westbound lanes.
The driver and his dog inside the semi were not hurt.
None of the cheese inside the trailer spilled. Crews restored the jersey wall to its proper place.
Idaho State Police said that weather was not a factor in the crash as roads were bare and wet at the time of the wreck. Earlier in the day around 6 a.m. ISP troopers reported several semi trucks fishtailing on 4th of July Pass.
The wreck slowed traffic in the area for several hours, but crews expected to have it cleared around 3 p.m.
