SHERWOOD, Ore. -- Two women from the Seattle area were seriously injured in a crash in Sherwood Friday, police said.

Police were called to a two-vehicle crash just after 6 p.m. on Southwest Tonquin Road at Southwest Morgan Road.

Deputies at the scene learned that 25-year-old Morgan McFarland, of Seattle, was driving a Honda Civic and failed to negotiate a curve. sliding sideways into the path of an oncoming SUV, said Sgt. Bob Ray of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

McFarland and the passenger in the car, her 17-year-old cousin Leah McFarland, suffered critical injuries and were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Deputies believe speed was a factor in the crash.

The cousins were on their way back to Seattle after visiting a relative in Sherwood, Ray said.
