GRAND RONDE, Ore. -- A 15-year-old Salem teen died Sunday morning when shot by his uncle while hunting, according to the Yamhill County Sheriff Jack Crabtree.
The name of the boy has not yet been released.
The teen, his father, sister and uncle were hunting in the 59000 block of Oregon 22, about three miles north of Grande Ronde, Crabtree said.
The uncle fired a round through heavy brush about 10:30 a.m., striking the teen in the back. The boy was wearing camo clothing in an area where the hunting party had earlier seen elk, the sheriff said.
