SEATTLE -- Police say a father looking for his runaway daughter did his own detective work and found a sexually suggestive ad for her on a website.

The 15-year-old girl was reported missing a week ago in Tacoma, said Fife Police Lt. Tom Thompson. The father and a friend were able to find the ad on Backpage.com.

The father’s friend had never met the girl, so the friend set up a “date” over the phone. Police say the friend went to a Fife hotel just after midnight Monday for the “date” and confirmed the girl was there. He then left the room, saying he had to go to an ATM, and called police.

Thompson said the girl was associated with another 15-year-old runaway girl, who also had an ad on Backpage.com, and two men.

One of the men allegedly admitted the room was rented for prostitution. The other man said he didn’t know what was going on even though the room was registered in his name, police said. Both men allegedly said they thought the girls were 18.

Both men were booked into the Pierce County Jail for promotion of prostitution and were expected in court Tuesday. Both girls were booked into juvenile detention for prostitution.
