PULLMAN, Wash. -- The pilot of a bi-plane crop duster walked away unhurt after crashing his aircraft in a field in Pullman.
It happened around 10:30 Saturday morning. The crash happened soon after take-off from the Pullman airport. It appears the crash is linked to engine problems.
A couple witnesses in the area said the engine did not sound normal. They said it sounded like it did not have much power. Shortly after, there was silence.
The pilot told investigators that is exactly what happened. The plane lost power seconds after take off. The pilot attempted an emergency landing and put the plane down on the field, after which it flipped over. By the time neighbors could call 911 and get to the site, the pilot was out of the aircraft and walking around.
One neighbor, who drives by the airport often, said she had seen the plane sitting there for a couple weeks. Another person who talked to the pilot said the man was not from the area. He was transporting the aircraft elsewhere.
