KEIZER, Ore. – A Keizer woman came face-to-face with a burglar carrying an armful of guns inside her home early Sunday morning.

Diane Kachaturian said she walked into her kitchen around 4 a.m. and spotted the stranger, then screamed.

The man was in the process of stealing the rifles, which belonged to the woman’s husband, authorities said.

After the woman screamed, the burglar fled and remains on the loose.

The suspect was described as an Hispanic man, possibly a teenager, about 5 feet tall and weighing around 150 pounds with black hair. At the time of the burglary, he was wearing blue jeans and a light-colored T-shirt with red trim.

Officers and a K-9 team searched near the Kachaturian's home and found a TV stolen from the Kachaturian's home, but they did not spot the suspect.

Joe Kachaturian told KGW his wife was very shaken up emotionally by the incident, but not harmed physically.

“My wife was absolutely hysterical. I mean, she hasn’t stopped crying since,” he said. “I feel like I’m trustworthy and so I trust everybody and you can’t do that anymore. Lock everything.”

Kachaturian said he collects guns and five of his expensive rifles were stolen, along with one shotgun. He said one of the weapons was loaded when it was taken from their home, in the 600 block of Sunset Avenue.

The couple said they bought the home in 1976 and used to always feel safe leaving the doors unlocked. But the neighborhood has changed over the years.  The burglar may have gotten in through a back sliding door that had been left slightly open to let the family cats roam in and out.

Also stolen were a 42-inch flat-screen TV, tools, a pistol, a weed-wacker and iPhone chargers.

Anyone with information that may help investigators was asked to call Keizer officer Dan Carroll at 503-390-3713 ext. 3530.
