VANCOUVER -- A car going through the drive-through sparked a fire that spread to a McDonald's building in Vancouver Wednesday.

Witnesses said one driver waiting for an order was able to pull a woman to safety as the car burst into flames just after 11 a.m. at the restaurant near 4th Plain Blvd. and Fort Vancouver Way.

Witnesses told KGW flames and smoke were shooting into the sky. Firefighters battling the flames from the rooftop were ordered to get down over fears that it could collapse at any moment.

Keely Henehan, who works at the comic shop Amazing Stories across the street said she saw the driver of a truck in line jump out and run to the car after the fire started, pulling a woman inside to safety before the fire rapidly spread.

"It was incredible," Henehan said. "Like he was Batman or Superman or something."

Jim Flaherty with the Vancouver Fire Department said employees and customers were safely evacuated but the building may be a total loss. Two workers were treated for smoke inhalation and were expected to be OK.
