SEATTLE - The Washington State Patrol says a 66-year-old man who jumped from an Interstate 5 overpass in Seattle was struck by a passing motorist and died at the scene.
Traffic backed up for several miles when three lanes of northbound I-5 were closed for about 90 minutes late Wednesday afternoon as troopers investigated.
Patrol Capt. Jason Berry says the Seattle man had been arguing with his wife when a Seattle police officer saw the woman trying to pull the man away from a nearby ledge. When the officer got out of his car to help, the man broke away from his wife and jumped onto the freeway 40 feet below.
Berry says the man's wife said he had been suicidal.
