CARVER, Ore. - Newlyweds were honeymooning in Oregon when someone broke into their car and stole almost everything inside.
Wesley Tennyson said he and his wife, Hnin, were taking pictures of the Carver bridge on New Year's Day morning when the suspect smashed out the back window of their car. "The noise of the river masked the crime, so they were wise in terms of how the did the crime," said Tennyson.
The suspect got away with passports, luggage, credit cards, irreplaceable jewelry, and U.S. Embassy documents. Tennyson's wife, Hnin, needed those documents to become a legal U.S. citizen. "The loss of these things and the loss of identification if devastating to us," added Tennyson.
Detectives said within a half hour of breaking into the Tennyson's car, the suspect went on a shopping spree at a nearby Target and Starbucks. It was caught on surveillance cameras.
The suspect racked up more than $1,000 in charges. "Anytime somebody has their property stolen you're violated, you're a victim, but here we have a young couple embarking on a new life," said detective Jim Strovink of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
Tennyson was urging anyone with information about the case to contact authorities immediately.
"Marriage is a difficult task that we embark upon, to love someone, then to have this burden on us is really heavy," added Tennyson.
