Flooding in being reported in the Oregon communities of Canyon City and John Day.

The American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents.

Classes were canceled Monday in the Canyon City, John Day, Mount Vernon and Seneca areas.

Police are monitoring the flood situations in the affected areas throughout the day and night.

The Oregon Department of Transportation, along with county road departments, have been out with equipment and are working with local citizens to build up banks of rivers and creeks in the area.

All emergency services remain on standby and boats have been identified to help medical crews in the flooded areas.

Officials say they have not seen this much water in John Day since the floods of 1964. Basements in a few homes near the river are filling with water.

Grant Union High School is flooded.  The school's track is ruined and the west side of the track has been turned into a ditch that is being used to redirect the water. Officials say the new gym has significant water damage, while the old gym is six inches under water and the school's boiler rooms are under five feet of water.

The district school building is also flooded.  The building is adjacent to the bus barn, and crews are trying to redirect water away from that area.

Water is pooling along the sides of Highway 395 S and that has cut off access to some ranch roads and houses.  There are reports of some homes being flooded.

Local leaders plan to meet to discuss the flooding and how best to respond.

The weather forecast is calling for more rain in the area over night, with anywhere from 3/4 of an inch to 1 1/2 inches of precipitation.

In Prairie City, a church was flooded and the Dixie Creek Road closed after a culvert wash out.

Flood waters could potentially block travel along Highway 26.

Monument, Oregon is at flood stage and crews are working hard to keep the water under control and the Elkhorn Tavern Trailer Park, which is at risk of being flooded. The city has deployed crews with equipment adding dirt to try and keep the flood waters away.
