SEATTLE – The bus driver who passed out in Milton, Wash., Monday, prompting two students to take the wheel, has died.
His family said Ryan Callis died Wednesday at the hospital. They did not say the cause of his death.
Callis passed out behind the wheel of his school bus as he was taking students to Surprise Lake Middle School.
13-year-old Jeremy Wuitschick jumped out of his seat and took control of the bus to keep it from hitting a church. Johnny Wood, 13, performed CPR on Callis.
Wuitschick and Wood told their story on NBC’s “Today” show Thursday. The interview was conducted before the family confirmed Callis’ death.
