OREGON CITY, Ore. – A suspect is dead after an Oregon City police officer was shot while responding to a house fire in Oregon City Sunday, according to deputies.

The officer was loaded into a Life Flight helicopter and flown to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. The officer's condition was not known.

Dozens of police moved in on the home and the threat to the public ended after the situation was "contained," before 3 p.m., Wurpes said.

Firefighters were originally called to the fire around 1 p.m. but were told there was a man with a gun and could not fight the fire, according to Brandon Paxton with the Clackamas Fire District.
