HOOD RIVER, Ore --- A soldier from Poland in Oregon for training with drone manufacturer Insitu has not returned from a Mount Hood climb.
The Hood River County Sheriff's Office searched for 32-year old Sebastian Kinasiewicz on Monday but found no sign of the man, said spokesman Sgt. Pete Hughes.
Ground and air searchers were back on the mountain early Tuesday morning. They planned to search both the north and south sides of Mt. Hood even though the missing man's vehicle was found on the north side at the Tilly Jane Trailhead in Hood River County.
Kinasiewicz's roommate told the sheriff's office the Polish man left around 8 a.m. Sunday to summit the mountain but never returned.
He had an ice ax and crampons and was described as a novice climber. He was wearing a black jacket and carried a blue backpack.
Insitu, based in the Gorge community of Bingen, Wash., issued a statement Tuesday morning.
Our thoughts are with Sebastian’s family at this difficult time. We are working closely with the Hood River County Sherriff’s department to assist them in any way we can to locate Sebastian," said company spokeswoman Jill Vacek.
