PORTLAND -- A baby couldn't wait and the family couldn't quite make it to the hospital Thursday morning, so the mother gave birth to her baby girl in the car the U.S. 26 zoo exit.
Medical responders said the father was driving the car when the baby girl was born just before 6 a.m., so the mother took care of most of the delivery herself. The father called 911 and emergency crews arrived to take mom and baby to Oregon Health & Science University.
Paramedic Darren Breiher said he took care of the girl while her mom was being helped into the ambulance.
"It was basically getting the baby swaddled in warm clothing and putting a hat on it and getting it nice and warm. because it looked a little chilly," he said.
There was no word on the condition of the mom or the baby girl.
