Plane staff and passengers restrained the man, who then sat calmly in his seat until the plane landed safely. Security guards escorted the man off the plane and he was arrested.

Passenger Henry Pignataro said after the man was restrained he was put into a seat "where he was surrounded by big guys."

The plane landed was scheduled to land at 5:11 a.m. and was only nine minutes behind.

Police expected to release more details later Monday, including specific charges related to the arrest.
