PORTLAND -- The wife of the Gresham man arrested in the murder of Whitney Heichel has filed for divorce, according to court documents obtained by KGW.

Amanda Holt petitioned for the dissolution of her marriage to Jonathan Holt on Friday, October 26 in Multnomah County Circuit Court.

Divorce attorney Jody Stahancyk, who is not directly associated with the Holt case, explained that in these types of cases, spouses may want to distance themselves from the suspect as quickly as possible.

"In these kinds of situations, people often file for divorce immediately to make a public statement that they don't accept the behavior," she said.

Holt is charged with six counts of aggravated murder in the shooting death of 21-year-old Heichel, whose body was found by police on Larch Mountain earlier this month.

According to the probable cause document in the murder case, Holt confessed to investigators he waited outside Heichel's Gresham apartment on October 16 and asked her for a ride. Then, just five minutes into the ride, he pointed a gun at Whitney and forced her to drive to Roslyn Lake, where he sexually abused her and shot her to death.

Police said that Holt later led detectives to Heichel's body, hidden on Larch Mountain.

Whitney and her husband, Clint knew Holt and his wife. They were neighbors at a Gresham apartment complex and sometimes house-sat for each other, when they went out of town.

They were also all members of the same Jehovah's Witness congregation.
