FORKS, Wash. -- A fire destroyed two historic buildings in Forks overnight Monday.
The buildings are located near U.S. 101/Forks Avenue and East Division Street. Clallam County Fire District 1 reported the fire started around 3:30 a.m.
Flames are believed to have originated in a three-story wooden building known as the Oddfellows building, which housed a theater group and a Hispanic grocery. The fire spread to an adjacent Twilight store, Dazzled by Twilight, which has been closed for some time.
According to the Mayor's Office, a similar fire 87 years ago destroyed part of the town and the two buildings that burned Monday were built following that fire.
Crews were able to contain the fire to the two buildings. No one was injured. The cause remains under investigation.
Forks Elementary, Forks Middle School and Forks High School are closed due to power outages as a result of the fire.
