OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A Thurston County District Court judge went to the hospital after someone at the door of his home threw a liquid into his face Monday night.

Olympia Police say Judge Michael “Brett” Buckley was attacked by a man he didn’t recognize as he answered the door at his home around 9:25 p.m. The man threw a clear liquid into Buckley’s face and then walked away without saying anything.

The judge felt no reaction at first, but later went to the hospital with skin irritation. He was released Tuesday morning with what was described as minor injuries.

Samples of the liquid were taken to be analyzed to determine what it was.

Olympia Police have no suspects or a motive. Buckley told police he didn’t recognize the attacker and couldn’t think of a recent case he handled that might have provoked the attack.

The suspect is described as being 6 feet tall, between 20 and 30 years old with a dark complexion, black hair and a medium build. He had a short beard and was wearing a maroon-colored knit cap, a dark sweater and lighter colored khaki pants.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call Detective Chris Johnstone at (360) 709-2793.
