HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Firefighters rigged a sling from ropes, cables and a fire hose to rescue a horse that had become stuck in mud along the Tualatin River Wednesday.
Rider Harry Weiers was taking his horse into the river to cool off Wednesday when its hind legs became stuck in deep mud on the river's edge at Eagle Landing Park.
Weiers' riding partner saw the whole thing and called 911 for help. Firefighters from Washington County Fire District 2 arrived and were able to free the horse in about an hour.
The horse, named Long Range Traveler, was doing okay Thursday. The rescuers said he remained very calm, considering the circumstances.
