NEWPORT, Ore. -- One of two dogs thought lost in the wreck of a fishing boat last Sunday on the central Oregon coast has been found alive.
Captain Todd Holt and crewman Shane Lague lost hope for their dogs after their 48-foot fishing vessel crashed into the north jetty at Newport and sank.
Both men survived with minor injuries but they thought the two dogs had drowned.
But on Wednesday, another fisherman found a 6-month-old pit bull named Camo on the jetty and took him to the animal shelter in Newport.
“Shane was ecstatic to hear Camo was found. He and his wife are on their way back to Newport to be reunited with their little survivor,” said Laura Ireland, the animal shelter manager.
The other dog, a yellow lab named Bob, did not survive and was recovered from the boat by the Coast Guard.
