SEATTLE -- The driver of a rental car stolen from Sea-Tac International Airport led police on a 50-mile chase on Interstate 5 Wednesday.
The Thurston County Sheriff's Office reported the chase started in Olympia just before 2 a.m. Deputies in the area of MacKenzie Road and Second Avenue Southwest noticed a group of people gathered around a new 2012 silver Camaro.
When they approached the car, deputies said a man jumped in and sped off.
First heading south on Highway 101, the driver then merged onto I-5 South, where he drove for the next 40 miles, hitting speeds of 150 miles per hour.
Deputies were finally able to stop the car using spike strips near Napavine. The driver was taken into custody.
Police with the Port of Seattle originally reported the car as stolen from the Hertz rental car company at 11:30 p.m.
