OREGON CITY, Ore. -- Someone has been blowing up mailboxes in Oregon City and police said although no one was injured, it’s an extremely dangerous crime.
The explosions were caused by homemade bombs. Investigators said at least four mailboxes were blown up on the evening of Sunday, April 8.
“The explosives were made by putting some sort of cleaning solution, probably toilet bowl cleaner, into a plastic bottle and adding tin foil,” said Lt. Jim Band with the Oregon City Police Department. “The explosions are very dangerous and could easily hurt or kill people. We are looking for any suspect information, as we have none.”
Band was asking anyone that saw suspicious activity at or around the following Oregon City addresses, to call the police tip line at 503-496-1616 or Lt. Jim Band at 503-969-4803:
- 16061 Winston Drive
- 16091 Winston Drive
- 16292 Barlow Drive
- 16135 Trail Drive
Band said investigators seized the remnants of the bombs as evidence and sent them to the state crime lab for fingerprint and other analysis.
The Oregon City Police Department has offered a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest. If convicted, the people responsible could face felony criminal mischief charges punishable with a $125,000 fine and 5 years in prison.
