BOISE -- Secretary of State candidate Holli Woodings is challenging her opponent Lawrence Denney; not to a debate, but to forgo his public pension.
This comes after Denney said elected officials shouldn't be eligible for the public retirement system of Idaho pension.
The challenge also comes amid a controversy over the demise of a 2012 bill that would have ended the practice of so-called pension spiking which gives long-term legislators lucrative pensions when they go to work for state government.
Denney killed the bill in committee before being ousted as Idaho Speaker of the House. He says that the retirement is not the reason he is running for Secretary of State.
