IDAHO FALLS -- Gubernatorial candidate Rex Rammell says he will hold a series of special meetings exclusive to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Rammell, a Mormon, says the meetings will primarily discuss issues of faith, specifically an LDS prophecy that says “the Constitution will be hanging by a thread and that the Latter-day Saint elders will step forward and save it."

The republican says although the meetings are private, they're not a secret.

“I didn’t think it was appropriate to speak to non-LDS people about LDS prophecies,” says Rammell.  “I don’t see anything wrong with a person wanting to be a public servant and standing strong on faith-based principles."

Rammell is running on a platform of state rights.  He'll face incumbent C.L. "Butch" Otter and Ada County Commissioner Sharon Ullman in Idaho's GOP primary election in May.

The LDS Church had no comment on Rammell's meetings and noted it's political neutrality policy.
