BOISE -- Longtime Idaho state Rep. Shirley Ringo says she's challenging two-term incumbent Congressman Raul Labrador for the 1st Congressional District seat next year.
Ringo, a former high school math teacher who is in her seventh term in the Idaho House, made the announcement Monday. She says Congress has a low approval rating because lawmakers haven't managed to reach compromises and get things done, and she thinks Labrador is part of the problem.
As part of Idaho's small Democratic minority, Ringo acknowledges she's facing an uphill battle, but says she's heard from Republicans who are unhappy with the more extreme positions taken by some in the GOP.
Labrador announced last week he would seek a third term in Congress, ending speculation that he could run for Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter's post.
