BOISE -- Public policy activist Keith Allred has officially announced his intention to seek the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
Allred launched his campaign Thursday in Twin Falls, the region of the state where he was raised. The 45-year-old former Harvard professor is so far the only Democrat to enter the race against incumbent Republican Butch Otter and two other GOP hopefuls.
Allred has been a fixture in Idaho politics for most of the decade.
He is the founder of The Common Interest, a 1,500-member activist group that has played a role in reforming property tax laws. Under his leadership, the group has forged a nonpartisan reputation and earned respect working with both parties.
Some Republicans say Allred's bid to be the Democratic candidate is making them question those credentials.
