Scientists overwhelmingly agree that pollution caused by human activity is driving up temperatures around the world. Illinois politicians are split on the issue, however.
Here's a look at what candidates for governor said when asked whether they accept the premise that human activity contributes to global warming:
DEMOCRATS
Dan Hynes: Agrees with "irrefutable scientific conclusion" that human activity contributes to global warming.
Pat Quinn: "We have to do a lot of things about global warming. I think our planet is at stake."
REPUBLICANS
Adam Andrzejewski: "Humans have very little (infinitesimal) impact on the warming of the earth, if any at all."
Bill Brady: "I don't accept that premise, and it is wrong."
Kirk Dillard: "I don't accept the premise that man is the cause of global warming, if global warming even exists."
Andy McKenna: "Research on this matter is still evolving."
Dan Proft: "We have no evidence to suggest that that is in fact the case — what Al Gore and some of the other kind of enviro-terrorists argue."
Jim Ryan: "I believe human activity contributes to warming. To what degree is a matter of spirited debate."
Bob Schillerstrom: "Global warming is not created by man and anybody who says that, it's just bad science."
