NEW YORK (AP) — New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner (WEE'-nur) was greeted with applause and intense media attention as he faced some of his opponents at a Democratic candidate forum.

The former congressman talked Thursday night about tax relief for the middle class, school safety and single-payer health care. He also admitted he "did some very embarrassing things" and apologized.

His mayoral bid comes two years after a series of tawdry tweets capsized his congressional career.

Earlier, Weiner got a supportive reception outside a Harlem subway station during his first campaign appearance. He told reporters he's encouraged that people are giving him a second chance.

Weiner officially launched his comeback campaign with a video posted online late Tuesday.
