Missing California mom was kidnapped, found alive

REDDING, Calif. -- A missing California mother has been found alive and is reunited with her family, after Shasta County Sheriff's Officials say she was released by her captors.

The sheriff's office said Sherri Papini, 34, was found at 4:30 a.m Thursday on a rural road near I-5 in Yolo County. Shasta Sheriff Tom Bosenko said at a 2 p.m. press conference that Papini was bound with restraints but able to summon help from a passing motorist near the County Road 17 off-ramp.

Officials are looking for two Hispanic women driving a dark colored SUV. They are each armed with a handgun.

Papini is getting medical clearance at an undisclosed hospital for injuries that are not life threatening. Her husband, Keith Papini, is by her side at the hospital. He was allowed to speak to his wife over the phone before arriving at the hospital.

Papini was last seen just before heading out on a Nov. 2 afternoon jog in the small town of Mountain Gate in Shasta County. Keith reported his wife missing after she didn't pick up their two children from daycare,

Using an app on his cell phone, Keith was able to locate Papini's cell phone on the ground near the intersection of Sunrise Drive and Old Oregon Trail, one mile from their home. However, there was no sign of his wife, deputies said.

Sheriff Bosenko said this is still an active investigation. Sherri's captor or captor remains at large and the sheriff's office is warning the public to remain cautious.

Her family and an anonymous donor offered rewards in an effort to find her. Bosenko said, to his knowledge, no tips have been called in to either the ransom reward website or a tip line. He also said he does not know why she was taken at this time.

Bosenko said she was injured in the course of events but would not give details on the kind of injury, how or when she received them.

Assistant District Attorney for Shasta County Stephanie Bridgett said the department could not name all the charges the suspects would face if located, but Bridgett said they would be put on trial in Shasta.
