Rape victim sues restaurant where attack happened
09:13 AM MST on Monday, February 18, 2008
TWIN FALLS - An underage girl who was raped last fall at a Twin Falls restaurant she worked is suing the business for damages.
Dustin Owings, a former supervisor of Gertie's Brick Oven Cookery, was convicted in October of raping two underage employees and is serving time in prison. His parents, Kevin and Sherry Owings, are the owners of the restaurant.
A civil suit filed against the owners seeks more than $10,000 for the trauma and harm caused in the assaults.
In her complaint, the teen contends the owners should have known that Dustin Owings was using his position to coerce underage employees.
It also claims the business had no sexual harassment policy or system for complaining about supervisors.
Kevin Owings declined to comment last week about the lawsuit.
