BOISE -- A Utah father and son are reveling in their good fortune after winning $1 million on the Powerball.
Mike Middlemiss from West Valley City, Utah, and Chris Middlemiss from South Jordan, Utah, stopped by the Idaho Lottery headquarters in Boise today to pick up their winnings.
The $1 million ticket was purchased at the Kwik Stop in Malad City, near the Idaho-Utah border. Chris said he bought the ten-draw ticket on his birthday back in June, and it still has a few Powerball draws remaining on it.
Lottery officials say the two men having been buying Powerball tickets together for years and it has finally paid off.
Chris is a paramedic and his wife is attending school. The couple has been renting in the south Salt Lake Valley and recently found a piece of property they wanted to buy.
“This could not have come at a better time for my family,” said Chris.
The couple also plans to pay off their student loan debt.
“I always thought that someday we’d win big,” said Mike.
Mike plans to help family with his winnings and save for retirement.
For selling the winning ticket, the Kwik Stop in Malad receives a $20,000 bonus from the Idaho Lottery.
The winning numbers for Saturday's Powerball draw were 02, 08, 22, 35, 37 and the Powerball was 06. No one won the $97.8 million jackpot, which now goes to $116 million for Wednesday's drawing.
