BOISE -- Two lucky lottery players in Canyon County won big jackpots last night.
The Idaho Lottery introduced retired Army veteran Steve Colson of Nampa as the sole winner of the Hot Lotto game. The jackpot for Wednesday's drawing was $3.43 million.
Colson says he plans to pay some bills, take care of his family and take his dad on a fishing trip, possibly to Alaska. He may also fix up his motorcycle or buy a new one.
The winning ticket was sold at the Jackson Food Store at 927 Caldwell Boulevard in Nampa. The store received a $20,000 bonus from the Idaho Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
Additionally, one Weekly Grand winning ticket was purchased at the Stinker Store at 5024 Cleveland Boulevard in Caldwell. Melissa Volkers of Nampa claimed her jackpot prize of $1,000 a week every week for a year this morning at Idaho Lottery Headquarters in Boise.
“I checked the numbers like 100,000 times before bringing it in,” said an excited Volkers. “I just don’t believe it’s real.”
The Idaho Lottery will pay the taxes on Volkers' winnings, which amount to more than $25,000.
Volkers says she plans visit her son in Alaska, get a new truck for her husband and buy herself a hot tub.
Stinker Stores received a $7,738 bonus from the Idaho Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
