H-Bowl: No battle of the unbeatens on the blue
06:26 PM MST on Wednesday, December 3, 2008
BOISE -- Boise State's undefeated football team is closer to knowing its bowl fate.
The post season merry-go-round was spinning at full speed Wednesday.
Things got started when the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl released a statement this afternoon that said Ball State won't be coming to Boise to play the Broncos.
“It’s unfortunate for college football that we are not able to put together these two unbeaten and nationally ranked teams in the Road’s Humanitarian Bowl,” said Kevin McDonald, executive director. “There was some good creativity, flexibility and enterprise among all the potential participants to try to make this thing happen but in the end it couldn’t be worked out. Invitations will be made for the 2008 Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl in the next few days.”
We were waiting for the chips to begin falling with the announcement that Nevada or Boise State would be playing an ACC team on the blue on Dec. 30, but that has not yet been confirmed.
Also not confirmed, the Broncos versus TCU matchup in San Diego's Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 23.
The matchup between the Broncos and Horned Frogs would be one of the most intriguing bowl games of the year -- featuring two top 15 teams.
It would also be a rematch of the 2003 Fort Worth Bowl, a game that also featured two top 25 teams. The Broncos won that contest 34-31, finishing the 2003 season with a 13-1 record.
Boise State fans will probably have to wait until Sunday night’s BCS selection show.
NewsChannel 7 talked to Poinsettia Bowl officials today and they expect to make an announcement Sunday afternoon.
Although nothing is official yet, local travel agencies are wasting no time putting together San Diego travel packages.
Harmon Travel in Boise got the jump today exploring solutions to get fans to Southern California as affordably as possible.
Options include two chartered aircraft and as many motorcoaches as needed.
A Global Travel spokeswoman says they are putting together charter flights to San Diego as well.
Although not expected to be a Fiesta Bowl-type migration, this year's bowl in sunny San Diego could still attract thousands of BSU fans despite the weak economy.
