Shasta Groene
COEUR D'ALENE -- The lone survivor of a brutal 2005 Coeur d'Alene murder continues to be buoyed by community support, with a fund set up to build her a home collecting $50,000, so far.
Shasta Groene, now ten years old, was rescued July Second, 2005, after she was kidnapped with her brother, Dylan Groene, by Joseph Edward Duncan the Third, allegedly for sex.
Duncan is serving a life sentence after pleading guilty in state court to bludgeoning to death the children's mother, Brenda Groene; her fiance, Mark McKenzie, and their 13-year-old brother, Slade Groene.
He's now on trial in federal court for allegedly kidnapping and killing Dylan.
Organizers started the "A Home for Shasta" effort last August after Shasta Groene's father, Steve Groene, said he and his daughter were homeless and living with friends.
