Sheryl Nawahine, 35, of Fruitland, is charged with sexually explicit conduct.

FRUITLAND - A Fruitland mom accused of sexually explicit conduct turned herself into police custody this weekend.

A grand jury indicted 35-year-old Sheryl Nawahine Friday on three counts of sexual battery of a minor between the ages of 16 and 17 years old.

The Payette County Sheriff's Office says Nawahine turned herself into police Saturday morning, but bonded out of jail later that day.

Her charges include sexually explicit conduct and showing a sexually explicit video and or photograph to a minor.

The sexually explicit conduct charge stems from a long record of more than 900 text messages between Nawahine and a minor – many of them explicit in nature.

Several messages or words are redacted from the messages, but many of them contain explicit content.  Some of the messages make reference to making sure the minor erases the messages from his phone.

Police say the interaction between Nawahine and the 16-year-old boy happened between August 6 and September 2.

Police say there was a period of time when the two traded text messages at the beginning of August – with a two week break, before the messages started again.   Police have a record of messages sent between August 31 and September 2.

The behavior came to light after the Fruitland High School football coach, who is the boy's coach, saw a picture of Nawahine exposed from the chest up.  The coach called police.

The investigation into the allegations began earlier this month. Next, Nawahine will appear in district court.
