Biodiesel is now available at 11 Treasure Valley Stinker Stations.
BOISE -- Starting today Idaho drivers will have a new choice when they fill up at the pump.
A ceremony was held this morning at a Boise gas station where biodiesel is now available.
This is the first time that biodiesel has been available in the Treasure Valley.
It is being sold at 11 Stinker Stations around the valley.
Here is the list:
2323 Main Street - Boise
530 N. Five Mile - Boise
2350 S. Apple - Boise
4925 Glenwood - Boise
300 N. Orchard - Boise
10677 W. Ustick - Boise
820 NW 16th St. - Fruitland
5024 E. Cleveland Blvd - Caldwell
16000 Highway 20/26 - Notus
317 S. Washington - Emmett
524 12th Ave - Nampa
The stations upgraded their pumps after receiving a $124,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Idaho Department of Water Resources.
The stations will offer a blend of 10 percent biofuel and 90 percent petroleum diesel at first, but they plan to get ready for a 20 percent blend of biofuel soon.
Boise Mayor Dave Bieter signed an executive order today directing all city departments to use biodeisel fuel as often as possible.
The mayor says it's part of an effort to cut smog causing emissions.
Biodiesel is also expected to help the economy by reducing our dependence on foreign oil.
Anyone with a vehicle that has a diesel engine that was built after 1994 can use the new fuel.
Right now, biodiesel is selling for about $3.29 a gallon, which is comparable to the price of regular diesel gas.
