BOISE -- A couple more well-known names emerged as Republican candidates to become the next U.S. senator from Idaho, to replace Larry Craig when he resigns following his bathroom sex sting arrest.

In all, there are now more than a dozen people that have been made public that Gov. Butch Otter says he's considering for the post.

Sheila Sorenson, a former state senator from Boise who ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House in 2006, has thrown her name in the ring.

And Robert Vasquez, the anti-illegal immigration candidate who like Sorenson lost in the five-way GOP House primary in 2006, says he's interested, too.

So is current state House Assistant Majority Leader Scott Bedke, a rancher from Oakley.

Craig has said he intends to resign effective Sept. 30, but he's still fighting to reverse his guilty plea in the case stemming from his Minnesota airport bathroom bust.

Here is the statement from Gov. Otter:

The list does not include people whose names were submitted by others but who themselves have not indicated they are seeking the appointment. It also does not include the few individuals from outside Idaho who indicated they would be willing to move here if appointed. Finally, it does not include those people who indicated privately to the Governor that they would accept an appointment but expressed a desire for their names not to be disclosed.

Here is the complete list in alphabetical order:
