UPDATE: Boy admits abduction story was a hoax
11:57 AM MDT on Friday, September 14, 2007
CANYON COUNTY -- Canyon County Sheriff's deputies say an 11-year-old boy has recanted his story about being abducted yesterday afternoon.
During a second interview with officers, the boy admitted to lying about the abduction.
The boy said he lied because he missed the school bus and did not want to get into trouble with his parents.
The boy originally told officers that around 3:15 p.m. Thursday he was abducted by a Hispanic man in the 14000 block of Highway 44 in Canyon County. And that he managed to escape the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 44 and Old Highway 30, while the car was stopped for a red light.
He even went into great detail providing police with a suspect description and vehicle description. None of it turned out to be true.
At this time, the boy has not been charged with a crime.
