Idaho court clerks rethink security of judges' signature stamps

IDAHO FALLS -- The case of a former Idaho Falls prosecutor sent to prison for using a judge's signature stamp to create false orders is leading court officials around the state to rethink the security of such stamps.

Burt Butler, 7th Judicial District trial court administrator, surveyed his colleagues in the state to see how they handle the stamps.

He found that court officials have no consistent method of keeping track of the stamps, or of who uses them.

Idaho Supreme Court Administrator Patty Tobias told the Post Register that she wasn't aware of any statewide guidelines for the stamps.

Former Idaho Falls Prosecutor Kimball Mason was sent to prison earlier this year for stealing weapons from a police evidence locker and falsifying a judge's signature.

Earlier this week he was charged with 13 new felony stolen weapons and forgery charges.
