Developer eyes Nampa for drug treatment center

NAMPA -- A southwest Idaho developer is asking Nampa city officials for a permit and a zoning change to accommodate a new residential drug treatment center.

Developer Jeff Needs, of Eagle, says the 20,000-square-foot facility will have up to 92 beds. He is eyeing a two-acre plot that is mostly undeveloped.

But some Nampa officials are urging caution as decision makers continue their review of the project.

Code Enforcement Supervisor Craig Davidson says so far there are no clear details about the type of treatment center Needs wants to operate or what kind of clients it would handle.

Needs says he does not yet know whether clients would have criminal records, but he says it's not a correctional facility.

The city's planning and zoning commission is expected to consider the proposal next week.
